1. Program design canvas
Fill this in with your partners before anything is scheduled. If a box is hard to fill in, that's where the program is most likely to struggle.
2. Metric menu
Pick 2–3 from each column. Outputs show activity; outcomes show change. Funders increasingly ask for both.
| Outputs what you delivered | Outcomes what changed | When to collect |
|---|---|---|
| Participants registered and attended | Businesses launched or formally registered | Registration + day of |
| Sessions or advising hours delivered | New system or process adopted (CRM, bookkeeping, scheduling) | 30 days after |
| Completion rate for multi-week programs | Access to capital: applications and approvals | 90 days after |
| Participant satisfaction and confidence (1–5) | Revenue change reported by participants | 90 and 180 days after |
| Referrals made to partners and resources | Jobs created or retained | 180 days after |
| Participants from underserved groups or areas | Businesses still operating after one year | 12 months after |
Tip: Capture a baseline at registration (stage, size, revenue range, goals). Without a starting point, you can't show change later.
